CHILD HEALTH DAY

Child Health Day is a national observance in the United States observed on the first Monday of October annually.
It is rightly said by John F. Kennedy that “Children are the world’s most valuable resource and its best hope for the future”. The Wealth of a nation is not in its economical and natural resources but it lies undoubtedly in the kind and quality of the health of its children. They will be the creators and shapers of a nation’s tomorrow.
It, therefore, becom esessential for every nation and every society to nurture a child’s development both mentally and physically. It is rightly said that “Charity begins at home”. Therefore, it is crucial that we ensure the mental and physical well-being of our children.

Here are a few ways to nurture a child so as to ensure their mental welfare:
1.    The first and the foremost step involves listening to your child. This provides comfort and assurance to the child. Make sure to express your willingness to talk on any subject .
2.    Secondly, it is necessary to acknowledge the uniqueness of your child. Don't compare the abilities of your child to those of other children. Set goals based on the child's abilities and interests but at the same time also accept limitations.
3.    Thirdly , promote your child's independence and self-worth. Help your child deal with life's peaks and valleys. It is important that  parents show confidence in their child's capability to handle problems and deal with new experiences.
4.    Lastly, it is extremely important to spend time with your child. Try taking out time for one-on-one activities or indulge in doing simple activities that both would enjoy.

Do remember “One child one teacher one book and one pen can change the world.” – Malala Yousafzai

The steps taken by the Government to further improve the health condition of children include the following:

1.Focussed attention in 184 High Priority Districts for implementation of Reproductive Maternal Newborn Child Health+ Adolescent (RMNCH+A) interventions for achieving improved maternal and child health outcomes.
2.Name Based Web enabled Tracking of Pregnant Women to ensure antenatal, intranatal and postnatal care and children for immunization to all the children.
3. Mother and Child Protection Card in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Child Development to monitor service delivery for mothers and children.
4.Engagement of more than 8.9 lakhs Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) to generate demand and facilitate accessing of health care services by the community including those for children.
5.Village Health and Nutrition Days in rural areas as an outreach activity, for provision of maternal and child health services.
6.Health and nutrition education to promote dietary diversification, inclusion of iron and folate rich food as well as food items that promote iron absorption.
7. Put in place similar entitlements for all sick infants accessing public health institutions for treatment.

Jal Shakti Abhiyan (water conservation campaign)

About Jal Shakti Abhiyan
(water conservation campaign)

Every city would now rejuvenate at least one water body. After the clarion call given by PM Narendra Modi in his “Mann ki Baat” on water conservation and Jal Shakti ministry’s campaign-based programme, the ministry of housing and urban affairs has asked all urban local bodies to undertake rejuvenation of a water body under their jurisdiction.

Working on Jal Shakti ministry’s nation-wide programme “Jal Shakti Abhiyan”, the ministry of housing and urban affairs, which is the nodal agency for urban renewal, has asked all urban local bodies to frame a water conservation programme. The thrust areas specified under the ministry’s programme include rainwater harvesting, reuse of treated waste water, rejuvenation of water bodies and plantation. Every urban local body has been asked to first constitute a rainwater harvesting cell which would would monitor ground water extraction, water harvesting potential of the city and oversee projects on rainwater harvesting.
The ministry has told the urban local bodies that “every city must initiate action to revive at least one water body during Jal Shakti Abhiyan.”
The Jal Shakti Abhiyan will focus on five key aspects - water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse of water and recharging of structures, watershed development and intensive afforestation.

The First Yogi !

Many features of Harppan religion are reflected in later Indian religion.
The beginnings of Yoga were developed by the Indus-Sarasvati civilization in Northern India over 5,000 years ago. The word yoga was first mentioned in the oldest sacred texts, the Rig Veda.Yoga appears to be even older than Indian Valley Civilization. Indus valley civilization dwellers inscribed visuals of their stories on seals .Many of these seals indicate that women  had an important role in nurturing plants as wells as trying to tame wild animals instead of hunting them.

The most well known of the Mohenjo – daro seal is the Pashupati Seal ,in which a three faced being wearing horned headgear is seated in a yogic trance ,surrounded by four wild animals such as an elephants, a tiger ma rhinoceros and buffalo and beneath his stool are two dear. Certainly this god shared many of the traits of the later Shiva which is also know as Rudra . Shiva is said to have five faces but only three faces are visible in the pashupati seal .Practice of yoga is much earlier than the harappna civilization
Yoga formally codified by Patanjali ,much latter in his Yoga Sutra during Ist BC. For Patanjali yoga was not just about the variety of physical exercise or  asanas ,it was a holistic system with both psychological and physical aspects .It included meditation ,pranayama and even introspective excersices such as learing to accept onself and others . According to Patanjali yoga was the ability to restrain random thoughts .Those who could achieve a high level of concentration in meditation continued to be regarded very highly ,as is evident from literature of the subsequent centuries .
In Bharavi ,”Kiratarjuniya 6th Century AD. Depicts Arjuna as a hero ,not because of his abilities in battle but because of his power to still all contemplation and meditate .
In Yoga, Lord Shiva is considered the Adi Yogi and the Adi Guru. He is the foremost among the yogis and the first teacher of the science of Yoga. He is an ideal renuncient and an ideal householder, all in one . It is said that Shiva first imparted his knowledge to Parvati or Shakti, his spouse. Also, for the good of mankind, he taught the science of Yoga to the ancient rishis who passed on this knowledge to the rest of humanity. All yogic and tantric systems consider him as the first Guru. These teachings have come down to us in the form of Agama Sastras. From these teachings, came various traditions which still exist. One of them is the Nava-Nath Tradition founded by MatsyendranathGorakshnath and the seven other Gurus of the Nath Tradition, which is still prevalent mostly in North India. Some consider Gorakshnath as an incarnation of Lord Shiva. In the South, it was the Siddha Agastiar or Agastya Muni, who disseminated this knowledge and created a lineage of Siddhas who specialized in Yoga, Tantra, Medicine, Astrology and other sciences. The tradition of 18 Siddhars is well known in South India.
In the yogic culture, Shiva is not known as a god, but as the “Adiyogi” or the “first yogi” – the originator of yoga. He was the one who first put this seed into the human mind. According to the yogic lore, over fifteen thousand years ago, Shiva attained to his full enlightenment and abandoned himself in an intense ecstatic dance upon the Himalayas. When his ecstasy allowed him some movement, he danced wildly. When it became beyond movement, he became utterly still.
