According to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) more than 40 million people worldwide are victims of modern slavery. Although modern slavery is not defined in law, it is used as an umbrella term covering practices such as forced labour, debt bondage, forced marriage, and human trafficking. Essentially, it refers to situations of exploitation that a person cannot refuse or leave because of threats, violence, coercion, deception, and/or abuse of power.
In addition, more than 150 million children are subject to child labour, accounting for almost one in ten children around the world.
ILO has adopted a new legally binding Protocol designed to strengthen global efforts to eliminate forced labour, which entered into force in November 2016.
The focus of this day is on eradicating contemporary forms of slavery, such as trafficking in persons, sexual exploitation, the worst forms of child labour, forced marriage, and the forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict. Main Forms of Modern Slavery
Slavery has evolved and manifested itself in different ways throughout history. Today some traditional forms of slavery still persist in their earlier forms, while others have been transformed into new ones. The UN human rights bodies have documented the persistence of old forms of slavery that are embedded in traditional beliefs and customs. These forms of slavery are the result of long-standing discrimination against the most vulnerable groups in societies, such as those regarded as being of low caste, tribal minorities and indigenous peoples. Alongside traditional forms of forced labour, such as bonded labour and debt bondage there now exist more contemporary forms of forced labour, such as migrant workers, who have been trafficked for economic exploitation of every kind in the world economy: work in domestic servitude, the construction industry, the food and garment industry, the agricultural sector and in forced prostitution. Child labour
Globally, one in ten children works. The majority of the child labour that occurs today is for economic exploitation. That goes against the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which recognizes “the right of the child to be protected from economic exploitation and from performing any work that is likely to be hazardous or to interfere with the child’s education, or to be harmful to the child’s health or physical, mental, spiritual, moral or social development.” Trafficking
According to the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons Especially Women and Children, trafficking in persons means the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation includes prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs. The consent of the person trafficked for exploitation is irrelevant and If the trafficked person is a child, it is a crime even without the use of force. Did you know?
An estimated 40.3 million people are in modern slavery, including 24.9 in forced labour and 15.4 million in forced marriage.
There are 5.4 victims of modern slavery for every 1,000 people in the world.
1 in 4 victims of modern slavery are children.
Out of the 24.9 million people trapped in forced labour, 16 million people are exploited in the private sector such as domestic work, construction or agriculture; 4.8 million people in forced sexual exploitation, and 4 million people in forced labour imposed by state authorities.
Women and girls are disproportionately affected by forced labour, accounting for 99% of victims in the commercial sex industry, and 58% in other sectors.

Currently, we are facing a crisis and we need your urgent help.
We understand that everyone is asking for help but Education is something we
are all entitled too and when massive chunks of any society are deprived of it
can we just stand by and watch? Action must be taken.
HEEALS is asking that you help us help the children that we so
often assist in our education programmes. Right now these same children cannot
access education as they are unable to take advantage of any online facilities.
Neither do they have the money to pay for a tablet or WIFI costs associated
with online learning.
US $150 allows us to buy a tablet, the insurance for a year, the
WIFI (2gb per day enough for a childs online learning needs) and a protective
case. Once this year is over we can then hand the Tablet to another child to
benefit from once we find another sponsor for the WIFI and insurance cost.

We would like to start a self-defence and self-confidence program for students of schools in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana states. As regards girls, the self-defence program will contribute in their lack of confidence during their periods: their phisical weekeness will be conpensated by acquistion of new skills. Moreover, parents will be more confident and they will feel more secure about their daughters. This will lead to an increment of girls’ enrollment in schools. Self-discipline hints will help out boys boys and girls to be positive and to be more aware on how they can protect themselves.
Goals: - This program will provide children with confidence, raising their enrollment in school and being more aware on how to protect themselves. - Students will get different self-protection tips on how to avoid/ defend by potential attackers througout the use of objects or by striking on the soft spots of the attacker, when ubjected to physical abuse, violence, crime, etc. - Students will have the chance to see the live demo of self-defence techniques as demonstrated by the trainer - Provide knowledge about the different tips of self-protection to keep in mind in different situations
