What is the Government doing for GRASSROOTS Nonprofit/NGOs?

What is the Government doing for GRASSROOTS Nonprofit/NGOs?

  • by Valentina

NGOs and nonprofit organizations can only exist thanks to donations from generous people and grants from the Government, which together cooperate to build a sustainable development in the economic, social, ecological and political areas.

When governments become more pluralistic, many of these organizations attempt to build on the new possibilities for citizen participation and NGO policy influence.

Grassroots groups and support organizations help give voice to those that can’t by their own, they play a crucial part in improving democracy and the skills of citizenship essential to healthy societies.

Localized philanthropy is gaining momentum with funders, who are fostering program ownership by empowering local stakeholders.

This approach disrupts the traditional international development framework.

Here are some reasons why the Government should render grants for grassroots NGOs easier, instead of facilitating only big international foundations.

  1. More Ownership: Local nonprofits are ever more engaged in the long-term outcome of their work. As members of the community they serve, they have a strong incentive to find relevant, practical solutions.
  2. Local knowledge: Local nonprofits people have more knowledge about local conditions and context than international NGOs.
  3. Higher Return on Investment: Directly supporting the operations and sustainability of local organizations offers a lower cost structure and a stronger foundation for long-term impact.
  4. Diversification: Funders, like private investors, can increase their chances of reaching a desired impact through a portfolio of local partnerships. This approach creates multiple opportunities for growth and impact.

To do so, a percentage of CSR activities should go to local NGOs, apart from firms’ own and big foundations.

World Day Of Social Justice:A Call for Social Justice in the Digital Economy

The digital economy is transforming the world of work. Over the past decade, expansion in broadband connectivity, cloud computing, and data have led to the proliferation of digital platforms, which have penetrated several sectors of the economy and societies. Since early 2020, the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic have led to remote working arrangements and allowed for the continuation of many business activities, further reinforcing the growth and impact of the digital economy. The crisis has also laid bare and exacerbated the growing digital divide within, between and across developed and developing countries, particularly in terms of the availability, affordability and use of information ICTs and access to the internet, deepening existing inequalities.

We are striving to take forward the Digital Education Program For Children in Villages and Social and Economical Deprived Section. Please Sponor or Donate To Bridge the Digital Divide gap and help us in providing Digital Education To Children .

While digital labour platforms provide workers with income-generating opportunities and benefits from flexible work arrangements, including for women, persons with disabilities, young people, and migrant workers, they also present some challenges. For workers, these relate to the regularity of work and income, their rights to fair working conditions, social protection and adequate standard of living, skills utilization, and the right to form or join trade unions. Algorithmic monitoring practices, in some cases augmenting to workplace surveillance, are also a growing concern. Consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic are exposing the risks and inequalities of workers engaged in location-based platforms. For traditional businesses, the challenges include unfair competition from platforms, some of which are not subject to conventional taxation and other obligations because of their novel nature, including with respect to their workforce. Another challenge for traditional businesses is the amount of funding required to continuously adapt to digital transformations, especially for small and medium enterprises, and inadequate availability of reliable digital infrastructure, in the global South.

The regulatory responses from many countries have started to address some of the issues related to working conditions on digital labour platforms. However, there is a need for international policy dialogue and coordination since digital labour platforms operate across multiple jurisdictions. The promotion of national, regional, and international multi-stakeholder policy dialogue and coordination is also vital to ensure regulatory certainty and the applicability of universal labour standards, given the diversity of responses by countries and platform companies.

This year's commemoration supports efforts by the international community to search for solutions to achieve sustainable development, poverty eradication, the promotion of full employment and decent work, universal social protection, gender equality and access to social well-being and justice for all. Consequently, it aims at fostering dialogue with member States and relevant UN institutions and other stakeholders on actions needed to overcome the digital divide, provide decent work opportunities,, and protect labour and human rights in the modern era of digital technologies.

social development and social justice are indispensable for the achievement and maintenance of peace and security within and among nations and that, in turn, social development and social justice cannot be attained in the absence of peace and security, or in the absence of respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms.
A Few Facts

• Employment growth since 2008 has averaged only 0.1% annually, compared with 0.9% between 2000 and 2007.

• Over 60 per cent of all workers lack any kind of employment contract.

• Fewer than 45 per cent of wage and salaried workers are employed on a full-time, permanent basis, and even that share is declining.

• By 2019, more than 212 million people were out of work, up from 201 million in previous years.

• 600 million new jobs need to be created by 2030, just to keep pace with the growth of the working age population.

11th October International Day of the Girl

The world is home to more than 1.1 billion girls under age 18, who are poised to become the largest generation of female leaders, entrepreneurs and change-makers the world has ever seen.

My Voice, Our Equal Future

Progress for adolescent girls has not kept pace with the realities they face today, and COVID-19 has reinforced many of these gaps. This year, under the theme, “My Voice, Our Equal Future”, let’s seize the opportunity to be inspired by what adolescent girls see as the change they want, the solutions- big and small- they are leading and demanding across the globe.

In 2020, we commemorate 25 years since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action – the global agenda for advancing the rights and empowerment of women and girls, everywhere. Generation Equality was also launched in early 2020 as a multi-year, multi-partner campaign and movement for bold action on gender equality. A clear narrative and actions related to the needs and opportunities of adolescent girls and their solutions is central to the Generation Equality mission.

As adolescent girls worldwide assert their power as change-makers, International Day of the Girl 2020 will focus on their demands to:

Live free from gender-based violence, harmful practices, and HIV and AIDS

Learn new skills towards the futures they choose

Lead as a generation of activists accelerating social change

WHY MENTAL HEALTH IS IMPORTANT !

WHY MENTAL HEALTH IS IMPORTANT - pooja sarkar
HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT SOMEONE WHO IS STRUGGLING WITH HIS OR HER MENTAL HEALTH?
May is celebrated as mental health awareness month. But in today’s day and age, it is of paramount importance that we encourage this awareness all year, every year.
With most of us quarantined at home and uncertain of the future, it is natural to feel blue and even panic. Other than that, we all go through tough times sometimes and people help us through them. Other times, we have been worried about mental health. Of family members, friends, relatives, colleagues. However, it is important to hold positive outlook and rejuvenate this time to slow down a bit and most importantly be kind to ourselves.
There are many ways to support somebody you care about. But first it is important to know about Mental Health.
WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH?
Some people call mental health as “emotional health” or our “wellbeing” and it is just as important as our physical health.
We all have times when we feel low and stressed or sometimes panic about stuff. Everyone is different. Sometimes those feelings are temporary and they pass but sometimes those feelings stay and develop into more serious problems and this could happen to anyone of us.
We sometimes may feel weighed down for a long time. It doesn’t stay the same. It is different with different people. It changes as circumstances change in our lives, through different stages. People sometimes feel uncomfortable. This leads people to not talk about it much. But remember it’s healthy to know and say how you are feeling. IT’S OKAY TO NOT BE OKAY.
But how do you know if someone has a mental health problem?
Sometimes it seem obvious when someone is going through tough time, but it is not simple to know if they are going through mental health problem. Sometimes you don’t need to know, but it is more important to respond sensitively to someone who seems troubled.
The world is going through an unimaginable crisis and there are uncertain times that have caught off guard. During these difficult times, a lot of us are struggling with anxiety, restlessness or just sheer despair at the misfortune.
HOW can you help?
There are a number of ways you can help a friend, relative or colleague who has a mental health problem. This is the perfect time to be there for each other. Check up on each other. Make best effort to be there for the people you care about. Also to be there for yourself too.
Talking about mental health
Talking to someone is often the first step to take when you know they are going through difficult times. But when you are aware there is an issue, it is important to go and talk rather than wait. Waiting they will come to you for help might lose the valuable time in getting then support and care when they need you the most. By talking to them and be there for them can help you find out what is troubling them and also can help you find the ways you could help them. It is important to provide an open and non-judgemental space with no distractions.
Listen
Let them share as much as or as little as they want to. Let them lead the discussion at their own pace. Also do not pressure them on telling what they aren’t ready to talk about. Talking can take a lot of courage and trust than listening. Whenever someone share their trauma, don’t start by saying that “you’ve been there, I know how you feel and it will get better”. There is absolutely no comparison. Even if you feel you’ve been there or you have suffered the same fate, resist the urge to make it about you. You listen. You don’t have to agree with what they are saying. But ny showing that you understand how they feel, you are letting them know that you respect their feeling.
Don’t try to diagnose or second guess there feelings.
Try not to make assumptions about what is wrong and why. Don’t jump with your own conclusions or solutions. You should support them. Talk about their
wellbeing, their diet, their day can help them de stress and help them to protect their mental health. Also ask them if the ways are helpful in any ways.
Remember everybody’s mental health deserves to be acknowledged and not ignored. And sometimes its okay to pause and take break from this mad race of accomplishments. Remember no skill will ever be worth more than your mental wellbeing. Indulge yourself in whatever gives you a sense of comfort, whatever helps you breathe.
Also reduce your media exposure. While staying updated about every latest developments, turn up to the stories and podcasts on courage, kindness and hope.
But most importantly talk. Talk your hearts out. We are all in this together.
As they say, the sun will rise again and we will try again.
There are dark times but also there’s light waiting for us at the end of the tunnel and together we all will make it through.
And sometimes, it’s also okay to be not be okay.

Jal Shakti Abhiyan (water conservation campaign)

About Jal Shakti Abhiyan
(water conservation campaign)

Every city would now rejuvenate at least one water body. After the clarion call given by PM Narendra Modi in his “Mann ki Baat” on water conservation and Jal Shakti ministry’s campaign-based programme, the ministry of housing and urban affairs has asked all urban local bodies to undertake rejuvenation of a water body under their jurisdiction.

Working on Jal Shakti ministry’s nation-wide programme “Jal Shakti Abhiyan”, the ministry of housing and urban affairs, which is the nodal agency for urban renewal, has asked all urban local bodies to frame a water conservation programme. The thrust areas specified under the ministry’s programme include rainwater harvesting, reuse of treated waste water, rejuvenation of water bodies and plantation. Every urban local body has been asked to first constitute a rainwater harvesting cell which would would monitor ground water extraction, water harvesting potential of the city and oversee projects on rainwater harvesting.
The ministry has told the urban local bodies that “every city must initiate action to revive at least one water body during Jal Shakti Abhiyan.”
The Jal Shakti Abhiyan will focus on five key aspects - water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse of water and recharging of structures, watershed development and intensive afforestation.

SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURES IN INDIA

SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURES IN INDIA
What is the difference between schools in metropolitan cities and schools in villages.

When it comes to infrastructures, there is a complicated issue that needs to be considered from different points of view:
1)    Gap between metropolitan cities and rural villages.According to the Census 2011, there are 6.4 lack villages in India and about two-third of the whole Indian population lives there.

2)    Gap between government schools and public schools. Indian families can choose what kind of education their children will have, depending on their financial resources. In short, both government and public schools are in villages and in cities. While government schools are free between the 6th and the 8th class – and between 9th and 12th you have to pay a nominal fee – in public schools there is always a fee to pay, even if in villages is cheaper. Another difference is the quality of teaching of course. On the other hand, in public / private school (Village ,semi urban & semi rural )teachers just have to have passed a 12th class to obtain an assignment.

These factors affect education, opportunities and children’s future and more in general the country growth. In particular, it is clear that government schools in villages are the problematic ones. Lack of infrastructures is the issue. For instance, 53% of total government schools, which form majority of schools in rural India, have electricity connection:

When it comes to hygiene facilities, according to the Towards UEE-Flash Statistics, NUEPA & GoI, 2005-06 to 2015-16 11% of the schools in our country do not have toilets. More than 2 lakh schools do not have toilets for girls. 49% of the schools don’t have hand wash facilities near the toilets. About infrastructures, according to DISE Elementary flash 2014-15, 40% of schools do not have playgrounds. 23% of schools do not have kitchen sheds. Furthermore, usually in villages there is an agricultural economics. For this, during certain periods students are busy with field works.

As NGO, we strongly believe that we are the only ones can provide concrete aid and supports to rural villages. We also are of the opinion that government should do much more. Since 2010 Heeals
is strongly concerned in programmes with villages and rural communities about Wash; Menstrual Hygiene and Health. Many contents have been produced: films and documentaries that we have been screened in schools; booklets and photos; distribution of sanitary pads and soaps about every month. As far as infrastructures are concerned, we are involved in projects that dependent on donations. For example, we bought water filters for people in villages. Then, in order to improve quality of teaching, we bought white boards and we brought them in schools. Lastly, we are involved in a new project we recently came up with: The Wash Wall Project. We painted walls in toilets and school with messages concerning hygiene, hand wash and menstrual hygiene. We believe that this is a good and impact full way to communicate with children.
