Happy Earth Day

Every year, April 22 is celebrated as the global Earth Day. The year 2020 marks 50 years since the start of this modern environmental movement in 1970. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic—as most parts of the world remain under lockdown, the Earth Day has gone digital to keep up the momentum.

The theme for Earth Day 2020 is climate action. The enormous challenge — but also the vast opportunities — of action on climate change have distinguished the issue as the most pressing topic for the 50th anniversary.Climate change represents the biggest challenge to the future of humanity and the life-support systems that make our world habitable. As glaciers continue to melt, droughts and floods increase, species go extinct, heat waves get intense, and weather patterns change, the call for climate action has grown louder than ever. “The impact of the coronavirus is both immediate and dreadful. But there is another, deep emergency—the planet’s unfolding environmental crisis. Climate disruption is approaching a point of no return. We must act decisively to protect our planet from both the coronavirus and the existential threat of climate disruption. The current crisis is an unprecedented wake-up call. We need to turn the recovery into a real opportunity to do things right for the future,” said António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, in his message for the day.
the main objective of the day will be to educate the masses—about greenhouse gases, an increase in carbon emissions and individual carbon footprints. The day will bring together experts and influencers from diverse fields to engage in a dialogue and spread the message of climate action.
From simple lifestyle changes to driving local or national climate policy, every one of us has the potential to contribute to mitigating climate change. As the world has come to a screeching halt, this Earth Day reminds us that the time is ripe to rethink about the future of planet Earth.

TAKING CARE OF MENSTRUAL HEALTH DURING QUARANTINE

TAKING CARE OF MENSTRUAL HEALTH DURING QUARANTINE
During quarantine, it is extremely important for everyone to maintain hygiene by bathing regularly and wearing clean, well ironed clothes. An important thing for girls is to keep in mind their menstrual hygiene which a lot of them tend to ignore. Carelessness can lead to infections thus it is important to take care of oneself.
1.       Keep changing pads/ tampons regularly- Keep changing napkins and other things of use after usage of 6-8 hours. This is done to avoid the development of any kind of bacteria that may be harmful.
2.      Increase water intake- Drinking 2-3 litres of water everyday will ensure that the flow is good and there is less bloating and cramps.
3.      Reduce intake of sugar/ carbs and consume more fruits- During PMS, mood swings can take a toll on one’s health thus leading to BINGE EATING. This can lead to cramps and weight gain. To avoid this, one must increase our fruit intake to get more nutrition.
4.      Do a light exercise- Exercises like walking, yoga, stretching and dancing can increase blood flow releasing endorphins or happy hormones to put you in a better mood.
5.      Sleep on time and avoid caffeine- This will ensure that you feel fresh and rejuvenated. For caffeine, use substitutes like ginger ale, lemon water and herbal tea to help you with those cramps and sore muscles.
