About
Jal Shakti Abhiyan
(water
conservation campaign)
Every city
would now rejuvenate at least one water body. After the clarion call given by
PM Narendra Modi in his “Mann ki Baat” on water conservation and Jal Shakti
ministry’s campaign-based programme, the ministry of housing and urban affairs
has asked all urban local bodies to undertake rejuvenation of a water body
under their jurisdiction.
Working on
Jal Shakti ministry’s nation-wide programme “Jal Shakti Abhiyan”, the ministry
of housing and urban affairs, which is the nodal agency for urban renewal, has
asked all urban local bodies to frame a water conservation programme. The
thrust areas specified under the ministry’s programme include rainwater
harvesting, reuse of treated waste water, rejuvenation of water bodies and
plantation. Every urban local body has been asked to first constitute a
rainwater harvesting cell which would would monitor ground water extraction,
water harvesting potential of the city and oversee projects on rainwater
harvesting.
The ministry has told the urban local bodies that “every city must initiate action to revive at least one water body during Jal Shakti Abhiyan.”
The Jal Shakti Abhiyan will focus on five key aspects - water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse of water and recharging of structures, watershed development and intensive afforestation.

One can easily avoid waste of water at home for that the person should keep the water tap turned off while brushing teeth, also the person should try to make reuse of the wastewater as much as possible, such as the domestic wastewater can be easily used for watering the plants in the house this gets the water consumption reduced. Like this, there are many other small measures that can be taken by the people at home for reducing the consumption and also the wastage of water.
