Climate Change and Its impacts on Water Sources in India

Climate Change and Its impacts on Water Sources in India

-Ecenur Dede

The climate change is one of the challenging issues that the world faces with.It not only affects the quality of life but also is the essential issue that affect both economic social and political lives of individuals. Therefore,it has to be considered and has to be found some solutions regarding it in order to be able to enhance the lives of human being. In particular,India is the one of the countries that faces the issue of climate change. For instance, the country reported the highest number of deaths in 2016 was due to the extreme weather.(Lahiry,2018).Therefore ,it is one of the challenging problems that the country has to overcome with.In this article,it will be elaborated how climate change impacted the water sources of India and its impacts on the society.

In India, the water is one of the crucial sources that country has to take care of as any other places in the world. The importance of water specifically for India is due to being one of the most important agricultural producing countries in the world. Therefore, water even becomes more essential for India in terms of its economy. For instance, decline in monsoon rainfall since the 1950s have already been observed in the country. Therefore, the dramatic change in the monsoon could initiate more frequent droughts as well as greater flooding in large parts of India. The economic survey 2018/19 observed that during the years when rainfall levels drop 100mm which is below average, farmer incomes fell down by 15 percent during the kharif and seven percent during the rabi crops seasons.(Lahiry,2018). The survey points out

that climate change could reduce annual agricultural incomes in the range of 15 percent to 18 percent on an average and up to 20-25 percent for unirrigated areas.(Lahiry,2018).Therefore,climate change brings problems for the society which deals with agricultural production so their economic lives. In order to combat with the climate change,India can take into consideration severe precautionary measures which can be specified as ; a. demand management to suit the supply, by choosing appropriate cropping

patterns and technologies to reduce water consumption in industry, b. increasing efficiency of water usage, particularly in the irrigation sector,c.solutions to use the flood waters as a resource through diverting flood waters to have potential groundwater recharge zones,d..having large scale recycling of wastewater; and lastly having desalination of

seawater to meet the governmental needs.(Shrivastava,2015).Thus,those precautions can be applied so that the impact of climate change will be decreased as much as possible.

Lastly, the climate change is inevitable so the its impact on the environment as well as water sources. However, by taking some measures can be implemented in order to diminish its effects on the environment as well the society. Therefore,India being agricultural producing country can take such precautionary measure in order to be able to cope with the climate change on its water sources.

Tackling Hunger in Third World countries

Tackling Hunger in Third World countries

-Ecenur Dede

Third world countries opt for dealing with the scarcity of food thereby causing the hunger problem in the country. This is due to the lack of sources in water, economy, food and severe other challenges that bring the hunger problem. In addition to this 98% of people living in developing countries face hunger (Christensen,2016).Therefore it is a huge problem and affects the quality of individuals living in third world countries. The hunger issue even causes people to die in these realm of the world.Thus,.In this article ,it will be elaborated the reasons of hunger in third world countries and the possible solutions will be suggested. In third world countries the issue of hunger stems mainly from poverty .

People are poor enough to sustain their basic needs thereby not being able to supply enough foods for themselves and in their househoulds. In addition to this, there are severe reasons that causes to experience hunger such as weak health, climate changes, and natural disasters.Apart from that Hunger also results from war and displacement, unstable or unavailable markets, and from waste. For instance,In sub-Saharan Africa which is one of the third world countries, people still live in rural places and are dependent on the lands for their livelihood,Decades of underinvestment in agriculture has inevitably inhibited their productivity. More frequent droughts and other weather shocks also affected farmers’ ability to produce enough food for themselves and the society.(Bread,2020).Additionally,Many countries in this region experience high economic growth rates, but they still lack concrete systems, such as administrative, legal, education, and health systems. They also lack roads, electricity, and irrigation..(Bread,2020). These situations make it more difficult for countries, communities, and individuals to bear with hunger and recover from shocks, such as disease outbreaks or droughts. Thus, there are severe reasons that third world countries face the hunger crisis. The solution for hunger can be depicted as boosting agriculture to increase income since mostly those third world countries are dependent on agriculture. In addition to this,Educating people on proper nutrition, sanitation and hygiene so that they keep their health is essential to addressing food insecurity.(USAID,2017).Besides this, empowering women for taking place in the agriculture might help to tackle with the hunger due to contributing the household as

financially .Lastly,The third world countries have issue on hunger due to the fact that they are having poverty ,have lack of sources on water and are usually dealing with the droughts and other natural disasters. Therefore such issues cause them to be exposed to poverty and lack of food thereby having hunger. In order to be able to deal with the hunger, the countries should be more aware of their legislative and administrative entities and should work on trying to boost and strengthen such subcategories in their government. In addition to this, those countries should also work on educating their citizens on nutrition, sanitation and hygiene so that it could have an impact on the hunger crises.
